Weekly Mouse Memo

Weekly Mouse Memo

Vol. 1. Issue. 1 12/13/2019

This week has been a busy week for Disney World. There has been a lot of activity going on around the parks and resorts, with the biggest excitement being the opening of Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge. The Weekly Mouse Memo has you covered on the latest news happening around Disney World.

Fire at Big Top

When guests showed up to Magic Kingdom on Wednesday 12/11 hey found the Big Top Souvenir closed, with little explanation. This included Pete’s Silly Sideshow and the Character Meet and Greet areas. It has been confirmed that there was a fire in the store overnight which caused significant damage inside. Disney has relocated several of the surrounding attractions to new areas for guests. At this time Disney has not provided any specific details of the fire or a reopening date.

Many Dates released for ride openings

Make sure you check out our full list of upcoming attractions for more details.

Rise of the Resistance

Rise of the Resistance opened on December 5th in Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. Many fans have been super excited for this attraction, with many guests waiting well before dawn to get on the attraction. For the past week guests have been arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at well before 5:00 AM to wait in line for Rise of the Resistance. The demand for the ride has been so great that they have stopped issuing boarding passes by noon everyday since it has opened.

In order to get on Rise of the Resistance, you have to be in the park and use the MyDisneyExperience App to get a boarding group (basically a Fastpass). Once your boarding group is called for the ride you will then have 2 hours to report to the entrance for Rise of the Resistance and enjoy the attraction.

Check-in Day. What to Do?

Check-in and Check-out days are almost always associated with a wasted day while on Vacation. Anytime you are on vacation the first and last day of the vacation are almost always wasted days, or just a day of traveling. Depending on where you are coming from you may spend the majority of your day traveling. If you can get to Disney World early on day one and leave later on the last day you can gain a lot of extra valuable time to your Disney vacation. Who wouldn’t love to gain an extra day or two at Disney? Especially when you have forked out a ton of money on this vacation.

You want to take advantage of these two days, but not sure how to take advantage of them? There are a lot of activities you can do when you get to Disney World that do not require heading to a park.

Check-in time is 3pm and Checkout time is 11am. This doesn’t mean you can’t show up to the resort early. If you haven’t done so already go ahead and check-in online. This way you won’t have to go to the resort when you get to Disney. You immediately begin having fun and you will receive a message when your room is ready. It’s possible that your room may be ready when you show up. I have been able to get in my room as early as 10:00AM

Arrive Early

Why flying into Orlando take advantage of the Magical Express and the bag service Disney provides. They will pick up your checked luggage and deliver it to your room in the afternoon. This is a great service to have especially if your flight gets you in early. You will need a Day Bag (Check out Disney’s Parks Bag Checklist) to carry around with you as Disney can’t guarantee your luggage will arrive at your room when you do. Even if you don’t use the Magical Express Disney will hold your luggage until your room is ready. Driving in! They will let you into the resort parking lot at any point on the day of arrival.

If you haven’t already done so, you need to finalize all your plans for your vacation. Make sure you have all your fastpasses book, dining reservations booked, etc.

Leave Late

Take advantage of your last day and hang out as long as possible. While you will have to vacate your resort room at 11:00AM, you don’t have to leave the resort. If you are flying out, have guest services hold your luggage until its time for your Magical Express ride to th airport.

Next go get the lay of the land, explore the resort and locate the important things, food, swimming, shops and arcade.

5 things do to on Check-in or Check-out Day.

1. Hang out at the resort.

  • The resorts at Disney World have a lot to offer, without you having to leave the resort. All resorts have swimming pools, arcades, food and shopping.
  • The resorts will have Movies Under the Stars. Not every resort shows a movie every night, make sure you pick up an activitiy calendar.
  • Go for a swim at the pool. If you are able to get to the resort early, you can enjoy the pool before the crowds hit. Make sure you pack your swimsuit in your carry on bag with you. Each pool has a bathroom with a changing area for you. They also provide towels for you to use while at the pool. There are always afternoon activities for the kids at the pool.

2. Take advantage of the non park activities

  • Explore the non park offerings Disney World has to offer. There is so much more to do around Disney World other than the parks. There are two miniature golf courses, 4 golf courses, Disney Springs, other resorts.
  • Disney Springs is a great option to visit on the day you Check-in or check-out day. Disney Springs has lots to shopping options, bowling, movie theater, Cirque du Soleil, NBA experience and live entertainment.

3. Dining Reservations

  • If you are looking for a unique dining experience, go ahead and get that done on the first day. This way you will not have to worry about rushing out of Magic Kingdom in time to make your luau reservations at the Polynesian

4. Head to the parks

  • Heading to a park on the day you check-in or check-out may not be for everybody visiting Disney World. If you aren’t traveling with little kids, then you can probably enjoy a park and accomplish everything, even if you arrive late. Just make sure the particular park isn’t closing early for a special event. Epcot and Hollywood Studios close at 10:00PM.
  • Take advantage of Extra Magic Hours on Check-out Day. If you hit the park at rope drop you can easily get 3-4 hours at the park before you have to check out of your rooom.

5. Visit the Outlet Malls

  • Take a trip over to the outlets and do some shopping. The Disney Character Warehouses in Orlando have a lot of great deals on merchandise that you won’t necessarily be able to find at the parks.
    • Orlando Premium Outlets
      8220 Vineland Ave #1252
      Orlando, FL 32821
    • Orlando International Premum Outlets
      4967 International Dr.

Update October 14, 2019 @8:00am

Disney’s Skyliner has officially reopened as of this morning and is operating normally.

Update October 7, 2019 @11:30pm

Disney World has finally released a statement regarding the accident that occurred on Saturday evening.

“We have a team diligently looking into the cause of the malfunction on the Epcot line of the Disney Skyliner. We have been in contact with the guests, many of whom were on the Skyliner for more than three hours until we were able to restart the system. We have expressed our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and continue to work with each guest individually.”

Update October 7, 2019 @10:40am

Disney World has now confirmed, on the official Walt Disney World website that the Disney’s Skyliner System is closed. They have not provided any other details

Original Article

Chances are you have heard that there was a misshape with the new Disney’s Skyliner system on Oct 5, 2019. Which caused the system to shut down and force the first full scale evacuation of the Skyliner system at Disney World. While there have been other temporary shutdowns of the Skyline system, this has been the worst one. The worst part is that the Skyliner system has only been only a week. This will leave many guest caution to ride the Skyliner in the future.

Last night, what appears to have been a crash between several gondolas occurred at the Riviera Resort station. This caused the entire system to be shut down. Photos from Twitter and Instagram, show what appears to be a Gondola crashing into another one.

As of this publication Disney World has only released limited information regarding this incident. The initial statement that Disney has put out stated “ The Disney’s Skyliner is experiencing unexpected downtime.” During the course of events Disney did acknowledge that there was an accident involving several gondolas but provided little other details.

Guests who were stuck on Disney’s Skyliner took to twitter last to voice their concerns and frustrations over the incident. There were reports of guests being trapped on the Gondolas for over 3 hours, being told to open the emergency kits under their seats.

Guests currently at Walt Disney World are reporting that all the Disney’s Skyliner stations are closed. Castmemebers are not providing much details as to when the system will reopen. We speculate it may reopen once a full investigation is concluded and they know why two gondolas collided.

What’s next for Disney’s Skyliner

There is going to be a lot of speculation over the next few days as to the future of Disney’s Skyliner. Since it’s opening on September 29, there have been several occasions where it has slowed down or stopped for periods of time. Guests seem to be split on the Gondolas, you will either love it or never ride it.

Yes the Gondolas will reopen, we just do not have any sort of timeline as of now from Disney World. They haven’t even released any sort of real statement from last nights accident.

I know many guests will avoid the Skyliner system now and seek other modes of transportation around the parks. These are the guests who would be content if Disney’s Skyliner never reopened. However many other guests and Disney World will want it back up and operational ASAP. We know that much needed improvements will come to the Skyliner system after last night. I would like to see Disney come up with some kind of improvement to help with air flow circulation in the Gondolas. The lack of air flow when the system stops, seems to be the biggest complaint from guests.

We will provide further details as we get them and once Disney World releases a statement regarding the incident.

ECV Policy Changes

ECV Rental Policy Changes

Last week Disney World had introduced several new policy changes that will affect guests who are renting Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) from third party vendors.

Before these recent policy changes, Disney did not have any preferred ECV vendor. They would also allow any third party vendor to drop your ECV off with Guest Services at your Resort and not require you to be present. Check out Disney Worlds Full ECV Policy

What’s Changed?

Disney Preferred Vendor

Disney World now has a single preferred ECV rental vendor. The preferred vendor is ScooterBug. If you are renting a scooter through ScooterBug, Disney will still allow the scooter to be dropped off at Guest Services. They will manage your scooter until you arrive at your resort.

Non Preferred vendor

You are still able to rent scooters from the non preferred vendor. However, Disney will not manage these rentals at Guest Services for you. You will have to arrange a time to meet with your rental vendor to pick up your scooter. Make sure you contact your vendor for more information.

Why not just rent from Disney

If you are new at renting a scooter for your trip to Disney World, you may ask yourself why not just rent from Disney World. Yes, Disney does offer various ECV rentals. However these rentals are limited to the theme parks and Disney Springs. So if you will need to use an ECV around the resort you will have to rent one through a third party vendor.

Early Morning Magic

Early Morning Magic

Disney is bringing back the Early Morning Magic to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Do you want to enjoy a potion of Magic Kingdom with fewer crowds or are you trying to complete the 4 parks challenge. Whatever your reason may be, getting early access to the parks seems to be a must these days for Disney enthusiasts.

However, do not mix the Early Morning Magic with Extra magic hours. These are two separate events. This early Morning Magic experience will allow guest that are not staying on property, early first access to Magic Kingdom.

Let me start by saying this is not a free event, it will cost you to get into Magic Kingdom early. Entry into this event will cost you $89 per adult or $79 per child. Additionally, you will need to purchase a regular park admission ticket or already have a park ticket. Access to this event can get costly, if you have to buy park tickets.

Now you are considering splurging and getting tickets to this event.
